Chassis Front Enclosure Mount

Created a laser cut jig in order to accurately position the front enclosure mount within 2 millimeters laterally and longitudinally

What?

  • The front-enclosure box at the front of the car is attached to a sheet-metal mount required to be held in positioning when tack-welding

  • A chassis jig is necessary to meet the mount’s positional tolerance zone

How?

  • I devised a jig model for the mount by working in a large chassis assembly using SolidWorks

  • Ensured that the jig is user friendly and can hold it securely at the same time.

  • Generated a .dxf file for use in AutoCAD to prepare for laser cutting MDF board

Results

  • Securely held the mount within ±2mm of true position for tack welding

  • No additional support was needed for the jig to hold the mount in place, facilitating the welding process

  • Provided a stable mount for critical vehicle electronics
